TFTC22: TV Apocalypse by Kathleen Rovner

It’s approaching Halloween and I want to bring you some books that are a little on the scarier side. I love, love, love today’s book. It poses the question about what would happen if TV really destroyed our minds exactly the way our mothers told us it would.
Sit back and listen to Daisy’s nightmarish Monday morning and whatever you do don’t switch on the TV!

TFTC21: A Rake’s Reward by Meredith Bond

Today I’m going to be reading from a Regency romance by Meredith Bond. Meredith got in touch with me and asked whether I would do a reading from the book and I was happy to oblige as ever.
I love reading stories from this period because I get to use my favourite English aristocracy accent and speak ‘terribly properly’.
I’m sure you’ll enjoy this book.
It will be my last romance reading for a while. Instead I have a few spooky reads lined up for the rest of October. I can’t wait…
So if you’re ready I’ll begin

TFTC20: To Ride A White Horse by Pamela Ford

Today we’re going back in time to visit Ireland. This was an Ireland that was ruled by the English and political decisions meant that most of the fertile country’s crops were sent to feed the English leaving Ireland’s poor dependant on the potatoes that they could grow themselves.
When the crops failed it led to one of the greatest mass migrations ever seen.
Today we’ll see how one family were affected as a heartbroken young woman makes the decision to leave her beloved home.

TFTC16: The Black Madonna by Linda Lee Kane

Today I’m reading from a novel that explores one of my favourite periods in history – the time of the Knights Templar, the inquisition and the Catholic Church’s attempts to rid itself of supposed heresies. In particular the fascinating stories of the Cathars in the Languedoc region of France.
It has always been a rich vein for novelists to tap and I think that you’ll enjoy the way Linda brings together the ancient and modern worlds.

The story today does contain a rape scene so perhaps you should listen to it without the children.

Now if you’re ready I’ll begin…

TFTC14: The Sorrows of Young Mike by John Zelazny

This week I’m reading from The Sorrows of Young Mike. A tragic tale of one young man’s journey to find meaning in his life and come to terms with his loves, himself and his libido.
The best portrayal of adolescent angst since Catcher in the Rye.

So if you’re ready I’ll begin…
